Welcome to my classroom webpage! My name is Kelly Vail, and I am a second grade teacher here at Villa Grove Elementary School. The 2018-2019 school year is my 15th year of teaching. Throughout my teaching profession, I have taught junior high language arts and reading, fifth grade, and second grade. This year is my 11th year teaching second grade. Although I enjoyed teaching at the various grade levels, I have definitely found my niche in second grade! I thoroughly enjoy teaching second graders and watching them grow throughout the school year. I have always wanted to be a teacher, and enjoyed playing school with my sister, cousins, friends, and dolls when I was a little girl. I have always loved school and learning, and as a teacher I get to be at school and learn every day! Not only do I teach my students, but I learn from them as well. It's amazing what they have taught me!
I grew up in St. Joseph, IL, not far from Villa Grove. After graduating high school, I attended Parkland College. I transferred to Illinois State University, where I got my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I earned my Master of Education degree in Elementary Education at Eastern Illinois University. In 2016, I returned to EIU and obtained my reading teacher/literacy specialist endorsements.
My husband, Josh, grew up here in Villa Grove. We have two children, Ethan and Adalyn. Ethan is in second grade, and Adalyn is in kindergarten. We have a beagle, Henry, who is a very special part of our family! In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and reading. I am an avid reader!
I look forward to my 8th year teaching at Villa Grove schools, and having an awesome year with my new second grade class!
